Fracture

Carpal chip fractures are most often seen in racehorses. Although they occur on various carpal bones, the distal or bottom corner of the radial carpal bone is the most common. Repeated trauma usually weakens the bone and damages the cartilage, eventually breaking a small fragment of bone off. Arthroscopic chip removal is a common treatment.
