Halloween Pet Safety Tips

As Halloween is almost here, we decided to post some helpful tips about keeping your pet safe during this holiday. Candies are only for people, not pets! Don’t feed pets any candy, especially if it contains chocolate or xylitol (a common sugar substitute found in sugar-free candies and gum). Keep your pet confined while the kids enjoy their treats or you hand out candy. If you decide to dress up your pet and take them out with you, make sure they are microchipped or have proper identification tags on and always keep pets on a leash. Halloween can be a crowded time and making sure your pet won’t get lost is very important. When selecting a Halloween outfit for your pet, make sure it fits comfortably and is not too tight or causes your pet to have difficulty breathing, seeing, or hearing. Costumes should not have any loose parts that your pet can chew off and consume. Keep all candles, glowsticks, and party supplies out of reach of your pet. If you are not wanting your pet to participate then the best place for them is being safe inside. Some outside pets can be nervous, scared, or aggressive towards people dressed in costumes. To prevent any lost pets or injured people, the best place for pets affected in any of these ways is inside.
